In advance of the national broadcast premiere of the P.O.V. Film Johnny Cash: The Man, His World, His Music, NPT, The Family Wash Bar/Restaurant and P.O.V. are Presenting a free advance screening of the film at THE FAMILY WASH in East Nashville on Saturday, August 2, 8:00 p.m..
The Wash is located at 2038 Greenwood Ave. (corner of Porter Rd.). If you’ve been there, you know it’s not so big, so if you plan on getting a table and eating dinner, give them a call (615) 226-6070 to make reservations.
In the classic 1969 documentary, Johnny Cash: The Man, His World, His Music, the Man in Black is captured at his peak, the first of many in a looming roller-coaster career. Fresh on the heels of his Folsom Prison album, Cash displays the dark intensity and raw talent that made him a country music star and cultural icon. Director Robert Elfstrom got closer than any other filmmaker to Cash, who is seen performing with his new bride, June Carter Cash; in a rare duet with Bob Dylan; and behind the scenes with friends, family and aspiring young musicians. This program paints an unforgettable portrait that endures beyond the singer’s 2003 death.
This event is a collaboration with P.O.V., PBS’ award-winning nonfiction film series.
Be sure to tune in to Johnny Cash: The Man, His World, His Music, when it makes its national broadcast premiere on Nashville Public Television — NPT-Channel 8 — and PBS stations nationwide on Tuesday, August 5 at 9:00 p.m. Central.
