The NewsHour on Print Book Reviews

I’m a few days behind on this, but thanks to GalleyCat, via the Book Publicity Blog, I’m reminded of the great interview regarding print book reviews, and debate of sorts, on this past Monday’s Newshour with Jim Lehrer. Jeffrey Brown spoke with Steve Wasserman, former editor of the Los Angeles Times Book Review, and Kassia Krozser, editor of BookSquare.com, about the publishing of the final standalone Book Review section of the LA Times. Future book coverage will be combined with the other arts in their calendar section.

Brown and the guests not only discuss the demise of the Times’ Book Review section — leaving only four papers in the nation with standalone sections: the Chicago Tribune, the Washington Post, the New York Times and the San Francisco Chronicle — but talk about the proliferation of book reviews and coverage on the internet.

You can read the transcript at the NewsHour site, or choose an audio or video stream. We don’t have a standalone section in Nashville, unless you count Book Page, which is published here, but the Tennessean on Sundays, the City Paper and the Nashville Scene all do their best to highlight books of interest to the community. I’m curious where book lovers in Nashville read reviews, if they do at all. Do you read up on books online? Which sites? Do you read the reviews in our local papers? Get the The New York Times on Sundays?

Let me know.
