NPT hosts free ‘Neutral Ground’ virtual screening Jan. 18

The Neutral Ground Virtual Screening

NPT and MTSU’s Center for Historic Preservation are hosting a free virtual screening and panel discussion of the documentary The Neutral Ground, Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2022, at 6 p.m. RSVP at https://bit.ly/monument-NPT.

After the screening, local experts Doris McMillian, Tennessee Historical Commission board member; and Eric Jacobson, executive director of the Battle of Nashville Trust; will participate in a panel discussion that may address Tennessee’s own history and monuments.

The Neutral Ground documents New Orleans’ fight over monuments and America’s troubled romance with the Lost Cause. In 2015, director CJ Hunt was filming the New Orleans City Council’s vote to remove four Confederate monuments. But when that removal was halted by death threats, he set out to understand why a losing army from 1865 still holds so much power in America.

This free program is made possible by a grant from American Documentary | POV, with funding provided by the Open Society Foundations.
