What is something you have done in the past year to make yourself a better teacher? What’s your biggest challenge? What words of advice would you offer a new teacher?
Recently, twelve educators from across Middle Tennessee were invited to come to NPT and answer those questions, as well as many others, as a component of an exciting new virtual project: Teacher Wall. Launched by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Scholastic and Donorschoose.org, Teacher Wall is a virtual town hall that seeks to connect teachers worldwide through technology. This virtual resource seeks to enrich education and provide a nation-wide teacher support system by providing a forum for educators share their best practices, their thoughts on public schools and education in the United States, and their ideas for education reform.
Over the course of two days, these twelve educators talked about working with English Language Learner (ELL) students and shared their experiences in the classroom and thoughts on the American education system. They answered questions about their biggest challenges and successes, their relationships with parents, varying levels of student engagement and building and working within different curriculum.
Look for interviews with these area teachers in the coming weeks!
NPT was awarded a Teacher Wall grant as part of American Graduate: Let’s Make It Happen, a public media initiative supported by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting to help local communities across America address the dropout crisis.
