NPT Will Wait Until June to Turn Off Analog Transmitter

As a result of the recent federal legislation that pushes back the date of the digital television transition to June 12, 2009, NPT will not be turning off its analog transmitter on February 17 as previously announced. On June 12, 2009, we will no longer be broadcasting an analog signal.

We’d like to remind you that we are already broadcasting a digital signal, and encourage you to take advantage of the benefit digital television provides, by getting a converter box or television with a digital tuner, today. You’ll experience a better picture and more channel options. To learn more, please visit wnpt.net/dtv or call 1-888-DTV-2009.

What about those of us northeast of Nashville where your digital signal does not come in at all, even with antenna? No access to cable. Do you plan to address these areas?

I have a friend who lives in a remote area of Trousdale County, TN and has a conversion box, but cannot see channel 8, I looked at the map and it says no channels except channel 5 listed for that area, he is getting 5, 4 & 2 but has always really enjoyed 8 but is concerned he will no longer be able to get it, He is disabled and cannot afford to get satelite TV. Does he have any other options to get your channel?
Thanking you in advance for your reply

Hi Mary. If your friend can see Channel 2, which is broadcasting from the same tower that NPT is, then I am confident that when we start broadcasting our full power DTV signal on June 13 that he will be able to receive NPT DT as well. Because NPT DT is currently broadcasting on UHF channel 46 at reduced power, our digital signal does not have the same coverage as our current analog signal.

Is this why last night my analogue TV abruptly segued from the news hour to charlie rose? In the very middle of the news hour…at the same time that my cable tv had nothing on 241 but a poster….no charlie rose which was on the schedule? thanks!
and thank you denice hicks for your great comments on Lear…

Yikes Ellen,

Not necessarily. We’ve been having some trouble the last couple of days with power outages and servers, and things have been a little wacky. We’re terribly sorry for the inconvenience and hope to have things working smoothly soon.

GEEZ – if NPT is up and running, why don’t I get it? Is it down, now that it is June 12? I had it up until now…Channel 2 comes in fine – hard to believe they are on the same tower…

Can’t pick up NPT either. Was receiving channels 8.1 and 8.2 perfectly up until June 12th. Have rescanned and still can’t receive a signal. What’s up?

@sfhorner – have you rescanned (autoprogrammed) your converter box or digital TV tuner as of Friday, 6/12? If not, you will have to, especially if you could see us on Thursday 6/11
but not Friday.

@couch112 – considering you’ve rescanned, have you tried adjusting your antenna, moving it around, making sure “rabbit ears” are pulled all the way out? Also, are you sure you have a VHF antenna? If all else fails, it could depend on where you live. Are you North of town? You may have to consider trying a different antenna

i live in green hills and have been recieving 8-1 and 8-2 digital channels perfectly until you cut off your analog signal now i recieve nothing after having rescaned many times. i know i live close enough to recieve the signal so i can’t help but believe that your digital signal was also cut off. please let me know what i need to do to recieve 8-1 and 8-2 again…thanks

last night i saw a program on pnt about the handel’s messiah rocks and if you give 75.00 dollars you could get the messiah rocks dvd, what was that phone number please

I live in the Bellshire area and can’t get NPT at all! Since you went all digital. I’ve moved the rabbit ears all over the place, scanned and rescanned all 3 TV’s. 🙁
I really hope you guys can get a signal to my area soon. I miss your programming so much!!!!

I live in Murtfreesboro and cannot pick up your digital signal with my digital antenna. I pick up other Nashville digital signals but not yours. According to the websites that calculate digital signal strength, I should be in your area. I have scanned and rescanned to no avail. I hope that this is not one of those poorly planned changes in technology in which the less well off, though persistently reassured, are finally left behind. Can’t imagine that would be helpful to a member dependent station.
