Van on the Run / PBS Prez Paula Kerger Gets a Quick Tour of Nashville

PBS president Paula Kerger was in town for the last couple of days to meet with the staff and board of NPT. It was a true honor to have her visit with us and to share with her some of the great things going on at NPT. Meetings after meetings, however, left little time for her to see our city. With just a few hours to spare yesterday afternoon, we hopped into the NPT van to visit some of our friends and show Kerger some of the world-class cultural institutions in Nashville. We hit the Frist Center for the Visual Arts first, where Executive Director Susan Edwards was kind enough to give Kerger a quick tour of the Tiffany by Design and Monet to Dali exhibits. We even checked into the Martin ArtQuest area to see what the kids were up to. We were fortunate as well to bump into Linda Dyer, an Antiques Roadshow appraiser and Frist Center Gift Shop part-timer. It’s a small PBS world.

After the Frist, it was on to the Schermerhorn Symphony Center, where we caught Nashville Symphony president and CEO Alan Valentine on his way out the door. Senior Director of Communications Christy Crytzer then gave us a quick tour of the magnificent building.

We walked across the street to show Kerger the rotunda of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, have a cup of coffee and catch a little of the extraordinary guitar playing of David Anderson.

Back in the van, it was up Demonbreun, around the Music Row Roundabout and Musica, up 17th to point out the Music Row heavy-hitters, and then a quick stop at the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt before heading back to NPT.

Thanks to everyone who accommodated us on short notice. The Tiffany by Design Exhibit at the Frist is up until August 24. Monet to Dali ends June 1.
