Tonight on NPT, Nashville is well represented on the Great Performances presentation of Eric Clapton Crossroads Guitar Festival Chicago
(7:00 p.m. CST). Vince Gill and Sheryl Crow are among the Music City musicians joining Clapton, Jeff Beck, Buddy Guy, B.B. King and more. Recorded at Toyota Park in the Chicago suburb of Bridgeview in July, the PBS special culls two hours from the 4 1/2 hour DVD, in turn culled from the 11-hour concert. Jeff Johnson at the Chicago Sun-Times writes that Director Martyn Atkins‘ “eschews the gimmickry so common to concert films with his no-nonsense presentation.” Those with HDTV’s should watch it on the HD channel, because as Johnson writes, “the HD picture is breathtaking.”
“…rock fans and guitar players will be checking out “Crossroads Guitar Festival” for the music,” adds Johnson, “and on that count both the DVDs and the PBS special come through with flying colors.”
