KEN BURNS ON THE LATE SHOW

I could probably post every day about nothing but The War and what people are writing about it. It’s too easy. It’s great posting reviews from the TV Critics, but sometimes what the non-critics are saying is even more moving. Ken Burns was on The Late Show with David Letterman last night. Michael Z. McIntee, writing on the Late Show website about last night, has a great post about Ken Burns and the film. Sure, he writes, “if you’re watching anything else this week on television besides The War, you’re really wasting time and missing out on something very special,” which sums it up quite well. But what I like especially is how he sets it up — coming home to his family, putting them to bed, etc. — while interspersing anecdotes about Burns. It’s an honest assessment. It’s hard to get in two or two-and-a-half hours four nights in a row to watch the series. He knows that. I know that. But if you can, do. Watch it later in the night when it repeats. Catch the multitude of airings over the next month. Tivo it. DVR it. You’ll be glad.
