ROSEANNE CASH ON THE JOHNNY CASH SHOW

This past August, NPT broadcast Johnny Cash: A Man and His Vision, which compiled some of the best performances from the late 60s/early 70s The Johnny Cash Show. It was a fantastic program, split into an hour of stellar pop and rock performances and an hour of equally stellar country performances. I was working the on-air membership drive during those two perfect hours, and was finding it hard to contain my enthusiasm for the show. I would occasionally forget to remind viewers that we were in the middle of our pledge drive and needed their support. I still get excited when I think about it. Imagine having watched it when it originally aired, and Johnny Cash is your dad.

This is as close as you’ll get. MediaMatters.org has a thoughtful memoir by Roseanne Cash, spurred on by the release of The Johnny Cash Show on DVD, about what it was like to, among other things, see her dad performing with Bob Dylan on the show.
