Imagine ABC’s THE VIEW, complete with four women of different ages, nationalities and personalities tackling such sensitive issues as homosexuality, domestic violence, women’s voting rights, and social and political equality between the sexes. Now move that show to Arabic television channel MBC in Cairo, and you’ve got KALEM NAWAEK, the hit all-female talk show causing a sensation in living rooms throughout the Middle East. In “Dishing Democracy,” airing tonight at 8 p.m. on NPT-Channel 8, WIDE ANGLE goes behind the scenes of the show and explores how satellite television is becoming a major platform for the voices of social reform.
