CAN YOU NAME TWO OF THE SUPREME COURT JUSTICES?

Supreme Court

If you can, you know a lot more than 25% of the Americans who can’t. Perhaps it’s time for a little history lesson. Starting on Wednesday, January 31 at 8:00, NPT-Channel 8, presents the first two episodes of an unprecented four-part series on the Supreme Court. Episodes three and four air on Wednesday February 7. PBS, together with WNET in New York, has also put together an extremely informative, educational and entertaining (there’s a fun interactive game…no kidding) web site. There are even lesson plans and discussion guides. It’s like law school with free course materials and no exam (except for the one I’m going to put up on this blog when the series is over). Did I mention no student loans to pay back?

If you don’t believe me, Bill Goodykoontz at the Arizona Republic has come up with “5 Reasons to Watch PBS’ ‘Supreme Court’ “

Charlie McCollum at the San Jose Mercury News offers some insight as well.

In the meantime, as you prepare for Wednesday’s premiere, commit these to memory:

Chief Justice:
John G. Roberts Jr.
Associate Justices:
John Paul Stevens
Antonin Scalia
Anthony M. Kennedy
David H. Souter
Clarence Thomas
Ruth Bader Ginsberg
Steven G. Breyer
Samuel A. Alito, Jr.
Retired Justice:
Sandra Day O’Connor

While you’re at it, give yourself a refresher on Constitution of the United States.
