This September, NPT will celebrate its 50th Anniversary, and we want you to help us mark the occasion. From our humble beginnings as school board-licensed station WDCN, to our stature now as NPT and one of the most-watched public television stations in the country, a lot has happened in 50 years. You have made those 50 years possible, and we want you to be a part of how we tell our story. We are gathering material and stories for a special program to be broadcast in September. We’d love if you’d grab a video camera or your cell phone and record yourself answering a few questions for us, and then post those videos to Youtube with “NPT 50th Anniversary Remembrance” in the title. Send us a link as well at TV8@wnpt.org. We’ll share your videos on our Facebook and Twitter pages and here on the blog. We’ll even pick a few to include in our anniversary show. Tell us anything you want, but specifically, we’d love you to answer these questions:
What are your earliest and/or fondest memories of public TV?
What shows do you remember? (examples … Mrs. Cabobble’s Caboose, Jellybean Junction, Tennessee Outdoorsmen, Action Auction, etc)
What do you remember about them?
What are your favorite NPT shows today, and why? (examples … Tennessee Crossroads, Memories of Nashville, Next Door Neighbors, Volunteer Gardener, etc.)
We’d also love if you could wish NPT a happy birthday in your own words (directly to camera).
Lastly, may we use your answers on air?
If you don’t have access to a camera, or would rather not record yourself, please answer those questions in the comments section below with your name and location. Or email us at TV8@wnpt.org.
If you need a refresher on all that’s happened, be sure to check our groovy Facebook timeline with photos and milestones from throughout our history.
Thanks for being a part of our celebration. Have fun with it! And please let us know if you have any questions.
