Media Update: White House Chef Sam Kass Congratulates NPT on Children`s Health Crisis

Sam KassSam Kass, White House Assistant Chef and Senior Policy Advisor for Healthy Food Initiatives at the White House, has offered Nashville Public Television his congratulations on the success of our Children’s Health Crisis project and dedication to improving the health of our community. In a video address embedded below, Kass ties the goals of the project together with that of First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move campaign, underscoring the need for communities and initiatives to band together to create healthy cities, and ultimately, a healthy nation.

The first phase of the broadcast documentary portion of our Children’s Health Crisis project wraps up tomorrow night, Thursday, June 28 at 8:00 p.m., with the premiere of our seventh episode, “Culture of Health.” It will be made available online, in its entirety, the very next day on our Children’s Health Crisis web site.

Also today, in an opinion piece in The Tennessean, Caroline Young, president of the Nashville Health Care Council, praises our Children’s Health Crisis project for spearheading “a unique partnership among Nashville healthcare organizations … private entities … and public and community organizations.”

Young writes:

“Nashvillians needed to see the dire numbers, hear the stories and become aware of our children’s needs. As a public television station that’s played a vital role in Nashville for 50 years, only NPT could document, inform and educate our community to effect real change.
