In this bonus clip from the NPT Reports: Children’s Health Crisis: Obesity documentary, which premieres on Thursday, November 18 at 8 p.m. and online the following day, Food Marketing Specialist, Southern cook extraordinaire and Volunteer Gardener regular Tammy Algood takes you on a tour of a local grocery store to explore how grocery stores manipulate their customers into buying certain foodstuffs. Much, of course, is not as healthy for you as they want you to believe. Tips include: how to read food labels; how to shop for cereals and yogurt; advise on sugary drinks and what exactly “sugar free” means; how grocery stores are laid out; and why to avoid processed foods and packaged meals and always choose “fresh” when possible.
