News Roundup: Children`s Health, Library Corners, Super Why! Camps and more

Sometimes, there’s so much going on here on NPT, especially off-the-air, that it’s hard to keep track of everything. You may not be aware of the many events and outreach activities that NPT is involved with going on in the community, so I thought a quick roundup was in order. Below are links to some of the latest news about NPT events, activities and programming.

After its success at the Edmondson Pike Branch of the Nashville Public Library, we’re proud to announce the launch of five new NPT PBS Kids Raising Readers Library Corners in area libraries.

We’re conducting 15 of our popular and successful Super Why! Camps June 14-18 at several schools and satellite summer sites — Paragon Mills Elementary, The McNeilly Center for Children, Fannie Battle Day Home and the Nashville Child Care Center.

The second in our NPT REPORTS: CHILDREN’S HEALTH CRISIS documentary series will premiere on Thursday, June 24 at 8:00. Hosted by Kimberly Williams-Paisley, this episode focuses on issues surrounding Tennessee’s infant mortality rates and birth outcomes, talking with policymakers, health professionals and parents.

We’ll kick off the premiere the morning of the broadcast by screening the documentary and taking part in FAMILY REUNION: 2010: Families and Healthy Beginnings, and day-long and discussion about infant mortality and prematurity.

Building on the success and popularity of a similar event last year, we’re partnering with Catholic Charities of Tennessee and the Scarritt-Bennett Center to bring you a free screening of our “Next Door Neighbors” documentary, “Bhutanese” and a follow-up panel discussion – on Tuesday, July 13, 2010, from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Scarritt-Bennett Center (Fondren Building).

We’re close to wrapping up our June Membership Drive, where we brought you the new documentary NASHVILLE: 20TH CENTURY IN PHOTOGRAPHS (Volume 2) as well as new specials with James Taylor and Carole King, Dianne Warren and Straight No Chaser. Thanks to everyone who has pledged your support. We can’t do it without you!
