What Can Wonder Do For You?

Last week, we told you about In Performance at the White House – Celebrating the Music of Stevie Wonder: The Library of Congress Gershwin Prize., which airs on NPT on Friday, February 27 at 7:00 p.m. Central (some PBS stations are airing it the night before, so don’t be confused). The show was taped last night in D.C. and was a fantastic event, with performances by Wonder, Martina McBride, Esperanza Spalding, Will.i.am, Mary Mary, Diana Krall, Tony Bennett and more.

President Obama bestowed the Gershwin Prize on Wonder, and according to People Magazine, Wonder may have done a lot more than contribute to the canon of popular song.

From People.com

“I think it’s fair to say that had I not been a Stevie Wonder fan, Michelle might not have dated me,” People.com quotes the President saying. “We might not have married.”

Upon receiving the award, Wonder praised Obama’s efforts to unite the world, according to the website, and added, “You know, maybe I’ll be a part of creating some more of those babies.”

Meanwhile, CNN’s Erica Hill has a great report on the event. Stick around to the end of this clip. Seems Hill and Anderson Cooper still haven’t wrapped their heads around that Wonder/Jonas Brothers performance at the Grammys.
