It’s become a rite of summer — the Nashville Shakespeare Festival‘s Shakespeare in the Park production — and it kicks off tonight, Thursday, August 14. This year’s play, a production of Naked Stages in collaboration with the NSF, is the seldom-performed Coriolanus. The Tennessean‘s Bill Friskics-Warren gives us the back story in a great interview with Mark Cabus, the play’s director, and Denice Hicks, NSF’s artistic director.
The Nashville Shakespeare Festival folks are adding an extra local touch to the park production this year, by inviting notable Nashville figures to make a cameo appearance in the role of The Herald. Each performance night, audiences will see a different local celebrity in the role, including our own president and CEO Beth Curley on Saturday, August 23.
Get to Centennial Park around 6:00 each night for a good spot, and be sure to take in the pre-show entertainment at 6:30. (Disclaimer: that pre-show entertainment includes me on August 23).
