The Foo Fighters, Bettye LaVette, Jakob Dylan and Gnarls Barkley are among the artists that will make their debut appearances on the Austin City Limits stage this season, it was announced today. The 34th season of ACL, which begins this October on NPT and PBS stations nationwide, will also include first-time appearances by Manu Chao, Pinetop Perkins, Sharon Jones, Erykah Badu, The Swell Season, Nick Lowe and more. Returning guests include My Morning Jacket, and a special collaborative concert Lyle Lovett & Friends: Songwriter’s Special featuring Lyle Lovett, Joe Ely, John Hiatt and Guy Clark. An encore episode featuring R.E.M., taped during the 2008 SxSW Music Conference will start the season.
In ACL news closer to home here in Nashville, show producer Terry Lickona will receive the Jack Emerson Lifetime Achievement Award for an Executive at the Americana Music Association’s 7th Annual Honors and Awards ceremony, September 18 at the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. Lickona joins Joan Baez and Jason & the Scorchers receiving special awards. The AMA Conference and Festival kicks off on September 17th at the Ryman Auditorium with Levon Helm‘s Ramble on the Road.
