RCA Studio B has certainly seen its fair share of country and rock ‘n’ roll greats, but occasionally, NPT’s Studio B gets a visit from one of the greats, too. We were honored to have the inimitable “Cowboy” Jack Clement join us in the studio last night during the March Membership Campaign broadcast of the unique documentary SHAKESPEARE WAS A BIG GEORGE JONES FAN: COWBOY JACK CLEMENT’S HOME MOVIES. The film, by the team of Robert Gordon and Morgan Neville, won the audience award for best documentary at the 2005 Nashville Film Festival, and was a huge hit when we first broadcast it last fall. We subsequently presented it to public television stations throughout the nation, and many are choosing to share it with their viewers.
I had the thrill of interviewing the legendary producer and songwriter during our pledge breaks (yeah, I’m bragging). Jack shared some great stories about the home movies that make up the documentary, as well as a classic story about how he first came to hear and work with Charley Pride, with whom he produced over twenty albums. Thanks to Jack for joining us, and to all who called in to become new members or renew their NPT membership.
