In addition to the great and diverse lineup of performances on <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pbs.org\/wttw\/soundstage\/index.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Soundstage<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pbs.org\/klru\/austin\/\" target=\"_blank\">Austin City Limits<\/a><\/strong> this month (both the New York Dolls and Lee Ann Womack play Soundstage &#8230; how&#8217;s that for diverse?), the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pbs.org\/independentlens\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Independent Lens<\/strong><\/a> series premieres two outstanding documentaries. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pbs.org\/independentlens\/billystrayhorn\/\" target=\"_blank\">Billy Strayhorn: Lush Life<\/a><\/strong> tells the story of the unheralded&nbsp;composer who changed jazz and popular music forever, maintaining artistic and personal integrity while challenging prejudice along the way. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pbs.org\/independentlens\/hiphop\/\" target=\"_blank\">Hip-Hop: Beyond Beats and Rhymes<\/a><\/strong> was the talk of everyone who attended last year&#8217;s Nashville Film Festival, and Independent Lens&#8217; presentation of the documentary on February 20 will have everyone buzzing again. It is perhaps inevitable that Sting &mdash; one of today&rsquo;s most acclaimed troubadours &mdash; would be drawn to revisit Dowland&rsquo;s work from a contemporary perspective, some 400 years after the composer&rsquo;s death. &ldquo;The songs of John Dowland have been gently haunting me for over 20 years,&rdquo; says the Grammy Award-winning Sting, who had little knowledge of Dowland until the gift of an exquisitely manufactured lute rekindled his interest in the Elizabethan musician.
