Stevie Wonder In Performance at the White House

Update 2/19/09 5:05 ET: Scheduled performers, announced today and including Wonder, are Tony Bennett, Diana Krall, Martina McBride, Esperanza Spalding, Will.i.am, and the gospel duo Mary Mary, among others. President Obama will confer the Gershwin Prize upon Wonder during the event. Title of show has also been updated below.

In an exciting last-minute addition to our February broadcast schedule, PBS will give us STEVIE WONDER IN PERFORMANCE AT THE WHITE HOUSE: THE LIBRARY OF CONGRESS GERSHWIN PRIZE on February 27 at 7:00 p.m. Central on NPT.

Wonder will be honored with the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song on February 25, and the show will be taped and turned around quick enough for us to bring it to you two nights later on Friday, February 27, preempting the previously schedule RIGHTEOUS BROTHERS 21ST ANNIVERSARY CONCERT.

As I write this, this unbelievable opportunity is quickly being put together, with producers booking talent, Wonder approving song lists and much more. This first-ever musical celebration held at the Obama White House — and during Black History Month — will be a spectacular television event that you won’t want to miss!

Check back. I’ll post more information as I get it.
