In 1911, Charles Ives began writing his most ambitious work, Universe Symphony \u2013 a work so complex that he ultimately left it unfinished, but for which he left a written invitation for a future composer to complete. As realized and completed by Larry Austin, it remains one of the least frequently performed works in Ives\u2019s catalogue because of the massive forces required for performance, as well as its controversial nature. The work calls for multiple orchestras which will be conducted by a principal conductor and four assistant conductors, as well as quadruple winds and 22 percussionists. This enormous work, each of three movements representing the past, present and future, will unite the Nashville musical community, as peers from universities and local percussion ensembles will join in this Carnegie Hall appearance.<\/p>\n
