Diebenkorn’s Ocean Park series at the Corcoran

If you’re in Washington, DC this summer don’t miss the beautiful retrospective of Richard Diebenkorn’s Ocean Park series at the Corcoran Gallery of Art.  Named after a beachside community near the artist’s home in Santa Monica, the series which he executed between 1967 and 1988 is full of the light and space that typifies  Southern California.

Philip Brookman, chief curator and head of research at the Corcoran and the coordinating curator of the exhibition describes the works as “topographically rooted abstractions in which a sense of the skewed light and place of that time emerges through the painting process.”  Here’s a walk through of what looks to be a gorgeous exhibition.
